Appu Ghar Pune, also known as Indira Gandhi Udyan, is one of the most popular and iconic amusement parks in Pune. Spread over sprawling acres of land at the base of Shri Durga Devi Tekadi hills in Nigdi Pradhikaran, Appu Ghar has provided wholesome family entertainment to Punekars for over 3 decades.
Fondly called "Mini Disneyland of Pune", it draws huge weekend crowds due to its festivals, rides, eateries and picnic spots.
History and Background
The foundation stone for Appu Ghar Pune was laid in 1989 as an eco-friendly park project. It took 3 years to fully construct and open for the public in 1992. The main goal was to offer entertainment options for citizens of Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune while maintaining sustainability.
The park is named after the official mascot "Appu the Elephant" of the 1982 Asian Games held in New Delhi. The naming signifies the playful, friendly charm this amusement park brings to its visitors.
